What Causes Gluten Intolerance?

Gluten intolerance has been one of the most prominent non-allergic, non-autoimmune conditions the medical community has taken notice of in the past decade. While not a new condition itself, as gluten intolerance may stretch back many centuries, only now have physicians begun to recognize the symptoms as being distinctly different from celiac disease and wheat allergy of which gluten intolerance has often been confused.

With 6% of the world population suffering from gluten intolerance and with the most common symptoms being bloating, intestinal discomfort or pain, and diarrhea the rise of gluten-free food and drink products are now becoming more prominent in today’s society. Following The Gluten Free Bible can eliminate all the symptoms caused by gluten intolerance and allow the people affected to lead a normal and healthy lifestyle.

The causes of gluten intolerance are not fully understood, but it is generally believed to be a combination of genetics and environmental changes that can affect a person at any time during their lives. In other words, a person can become gluten intolerant late in life even if they had no sign of any problems before. Genetics would involve family history as well, denoting parents or grandparents that may have suffered from gluten intolerance, though direct evidence can be difficult to determine if those particular persons have not been previously diagnosed.

Essentially, gluten intolerance is the inability of the intestines to effectively process the protein gluten, which is found in processed wheat, barley, and rye products that cover a wide range of different foods and drinks. Gluten is mostly found in Western cultures and thus, there may be millions more in other parts of the world who are also gluten intolerant but their diet does not have any gluten present, meaning that they will never run across this condition in their normal lives.

Gluten intolerance was often confused with celiac disease, a similar condition but with a different origin. Also, allergic reactions to wheat were often given as the reason for gluten intolerance even though these types of allergic reactions were only temporary. Gluten intolerance has also been associated by indirectly causing migraines and headaches from the symptoms of bloating and discomfort in the intestinal tract. Also, gluten intolerance has been associated with attention-deficit disorder or ADD, schizophrenia, the involuntary twitching of muscle groups, and even pain in the bones and joints.

For all the problems associated with gluten intolerance and the apparent causes, the treatment is generally the same. Following The Gluten Free Bible program will eliminate all gluten from the diet and not expose the intestines to the protein that causes so much discomfort. By eating and drinking gluten free products, people of all ages and physical conditions can enjoy a normal, healthy lifestyle.

Today, it is far easier to enjoy a gluten free diet program given the sheer number of gluten free products on the market today.  A little research combined with carefully looking over the ingredients can keep a person gluten free for the rest of their lives.
